Tom and his Aunty Mary found three starfish at Carey's Bay. The starfish were dead. Mary froze the starfish so room 11 would be able to look at them and touch them as they thawed.
Tom's Mum Mandy helped us find answers to our questions.
Starfish live in the sea. Most have 5 legs. They eat mussels, clams and algae. Starfish can grow a new leg and even a new body from just one leg. They are omnivores. They are called Papatangaroa in Maori. Starfish can live for up to 50 years. They have an eye at the end of each arm. Their eye can only see light and dark.
